What is the Kilbourn Park Advisory Council?

The Kilbourn Park Advisory Council (KPAC) is a voluntary group of individuals who meet on a regular basis to support the effective functioning of the park. The Council works with the park supervisor and other Chicago Park District staff, advising them on the needs and concerns of the community and making recommendations and suggestions regarding Kilbourn Park.

Advisory councils promote ways for the community to better utilize the Chicago Park District’s programs and facilities; provide communication to the Chicago Park District on matters relating to their parks; increase community awareness of Chicago Park District projects; provide the community with a vehicle through which park information can be shared; and assist in locating alternate funding sources to enhance park facilities.

Our Mission

The Kilbourn Park Advisory Council (KPAC) is a registered 501c3 Tax Exempt non-profit (IL tax exemption number E99245485), which is a subsidiary of the Chicago Parks Foundation a public charity (EIN number 45-4866050) and made up of a voluntary group of individuals whose mission is to build a stronger community in our neighborhood and the city as a whole. Our dedication to supporting, conserving and enhancing Kilbourn Park and its facilities enriches the lives of the park’s neighboring residents and the park’s visitors alike. The KPAC volunteers encourage the enhancement of our neighborhood through positive park energy and fostering a lasting community presence within Kilbourn Park. Each and every event that the volunteers of the Kilbourn Park Advisory Council plan, develop and implement for the area’s residents, deeply enriches the sense of communal bond and feeling of brotherhood all while raising awareness for our park. When we invest in our park, we improve the community that depends on it. Because it’s the people who make our park great both here and in every Chicago community.

What is an Advisory Council?

The Chicago Park District has all of the details on their Advisory Council program, but there are a couple important things to note about our affiliation:

  • Think of an Advisory Council as a special purpose non-profit organization specifically for a park. If you donate to the Chicago Park District, that money goes into a larger CPD fund that can be used across the city. If you donate directly to an Advisory Council, that money will be spent within that park to put on events, help fun additional programming, perhaps install a new amenity in the park, etc. It’s a way to keep funds local and keep our park focused on what the neighborhood wants to see here.
  • Our non-profit status comes as part of being a subsidiary of the Chicago Parks Foundation and meeting the requirements of their program. More information on that can be found on their site. If you’d like a to make a donation to KPAC, find out how on our Donate page.
  • This is not an official Chicago Park District website for Kilbourn Park. If you’re looking for that, head over here!
